ADHD Guideline

GOAL

To increase the consistency of the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of ADHD

TARGET POPULATION

All clients diagnosed with ADHD and treated at your practice

REASON IDENTIFIED

Review of the member population indicated ADHD was a high volume diagnosis

PRIMARY ELEMENTS

  1. Comprehensive history, including developmental and medical components
  2. Standardized rating scales
  3. Medication evaluation with PCP or psychiatrist
  4. For child and adolescent clients, the routine use of psychosocial interventions, such as parent behavior modification training and social skills group therapy
  5. For adolescent and adult clients, the use of psychosocial interventions, such as coping strategies and individual therapy for comorbid problems

MEDICATION ELEMENTS (Ages 6-12 only)

Initiation Phase

  1. One follow-up visit within 30 days

Continuation and Maintenance Phase

  1. Two follow-up visits within 9 months after initiation phase ends

ADHD Parameters

Clinical exceptions to the ADHD guideline will be reviewed by a BHM Medical Director.
